Hilary Duff's NHL-playing fiancé, Mike Comrie, knows how to give good ice. A source close to the Edmonton Oilers center, 29, tells us that the engagement ring he gave the former Disney star, 22, cost—gulp—$1 million...

The source tells us that Comrie bought the14-karat princess-cut sparkler in Las Vegas. After two years of dating, Comrie popped the question while he and Duff were on a recent vacation in Hawaii.

A wedding isn't the only thing these two have in the works. Our source also tells us the pair are close to buying a $10 million home in Beverly Hills. (While he probably takes home a nice paycheck from the Oilers, Comrie also happens to be an heir to Canadian home furnishings retail empire, The Brick.)

A rep for Duff declined to comment. Comrie has proven himself to be a generous beau. Just a few months after they became a couple in 2007, he reportedly bought his ladylove a $100,000 Mercedes.

Nanci Ryder, the rep for the Gossip Girl star, confirmed rumours that the pair were set to tie the knot, saying: "Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie were engaged this weekend while vacationing in Hawaii," she said. "After having been together for over two years, they are very excited to share this happy news. They are thankful for all of your warm wishes." Since getting together, Hilary has been a regular at Mike's Ottawa Senators games, often alongside Carrie Underwood, whose fiancé Mike Fisher also plays for the team.

Hilary Duff escaped heartbreak this Valentine's Day weekend after her pet dog was found, having been previously thought to be missing.

According to celebrity gossip website Perez Hilton, Duff - who recently starred in hit series Gossip Girl - asked paparazzi outside her home on Sunday (February 14th) if they could help her find canine companion DuBois. However, the next day, Duff's sister Haylie let people know via Twitter that the pooch had turned up safe and sound.

"Yes, DuBois was in the house the whole time," she wrote. "Thank you for all the wishes and good lucks." Hilary was likely to be worried her dog would suffer the same fate as Jessica Simpson's, which vanished in September last year.

How things work: You know how young female celebs often show up at high-end fashion shows, in Paris and elsewhere? Turns out these are not shopping trips; they're the opposite.

The website fashionista.com did the research and found that big names - Rihanna, for example, or Beyoncé - sometimes get paid $100,000, even more, for spending 60 or 90 minutes in the front row at a designer show. Top newcomers like Blake Lively can get $40,000 or $50,000. Some men are invited, too, but are paid less.

The numbers suggest it's a young stars' game: Jennifer Lopez used to get $80,000, but now makes only about $30,000 for such a gig, the site says.

A few more names and numbers: Maggie Gyllenhaal, $60,000; Colin Firth, $15,000; Hilary Duff, $40,000; Amanda Bynes, $25,000 to $30,000; Jersey Shore cast, not invited.

JONAS CLEARS UP DUFF DATING RUMOURS

Joe Jonas has cleared up rumours he's romancing Hilary Duff after he was spotted outside the pop star's Los Angeles home - his parents are her next door neighbours.

The Jonas Brothers singer has been enjoying single life for the last eight months after splitting from Camilla Belle, the actress he dated after dumping Taylor Swift. He has since been linked to stars Brenda Song and Demi Lovato.

Duff was rumoured to be his latest love interest, but Jonas insists he hasn't paid a romantic visit to the actress/singer, who is dating ice hockey star Mike Comrie. And he blames the media for not checking facts.

Jonas explains, “My parents are her next door neighbours. I was leaving my parents garage, (when photographers) must have been waiting for Hilary Duff. Their garages are right next to each other. "So, as I’m walking out, they take a picture of me, saying I’m leaving Hilary Duff’s house."

Hilary Duff's "Business Of Falling In Love" Premieres On ABC Family In April

Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) - Hilary Duff's is getting into "The Business of Falling in Love." The new romantic comedy with the former "Lizzie McGuire" star is set to premiere on ABC Family on Sunday, April 18th at 8pm ET/PT.

Based on the book "Diary of a Working Girl" by Daniella Brodsky, Duff plays fashion journalist Lane Daniels who pitches the story "Switching Careers to Find Love" to her favorite magazine and career aspiration Cosmopolitan. The editor falls for the story, which requires Lane to date as many men in a new corporate office job, and Lane falls for music producer Liam (Chris Carmack), who isn't one of the guys her story requires her to date.

Lane has to choose love or a Cosmo cover story, and although for a fashion journalist it might be a tough decision, ABC Family original movies manage to always find a happy ending. "The Business of Falling in Love" is the first TV movie for Duff since 2002's Disney Channel movie "Cadet Kelly."

Duff has recently starred in a much-talked-about guest stint on "Gossip Girl," as well as "According to Greta," which hits DVD and Blu-ray next week. She's also starting work on the upcoming "Story of Bonnie & Clyde."

Los Angeles Times: Hilary Duff might not strike most people as the first choice to play a bitter, sassy teenager with a self-destructive streak, but this ex-tween queen's attempt to transform her bright-eyed wholesomeness into rebellious snark in the modest teen saga "According to Greta" is a valiant one.

Dumped by her fed-up mother (Melissa Leo) at the Jersey Shore home of Greta's grandparents (Ellen Burstyn and Michael Murphy), this movie's petulant heroine shocks those around her with acerbic musings about committing suicide at 18, until summer romance, family secrets and near-tragedy guide Greta toward an emergent maturity about the consequences of her actions.

Director Nancy Bardawil and writer Michael Gilvary have a few too many after-school special schematics on display, and the recurrent use of animated scrapbook segues and pop songs that telegraph every emotion feels lazy. But their hearts are in the right place with their taming-of-the-brat tale.

They give Duff plenty of room to fail (quippy insults aren't her forte) and succeed (Greta's inevitable softening). Plus, the more-than-capable cast around her -- especially the magnetic Evan Ross as the sweet and soulful ex-juvie line cook she falls for -- keeps the generally predictable proceedings at a manageably spirited level of charm.

“I got to bring in textures that I loved and tell them about the shapes that I like. I designed clothing that I feel are staples for my closet. “I walked into a mall one day and was mobbed by people. And I just remember feeling really different than everyone else. I felt really loved. But it was weird at the same time. I don’t necessarily like to walk into a place and be recognized.”

Taking the part of starlet Olivia Burke on Gossip Girl:
“I was a little hesitant. It was kind of close to home… then I realized, I would never say something [that Olivia says] like, ‘Oh, this is just for the cameras.’ I think that’s what makes me so different from some of the other people my age. It seemed for a time there were people who hated each other – and I knew they hated each other – but they were in pictures together all the time, smiling and throwing their arms around each other. I was like, “You’re in the same business I am – how can you do that and feel okay? I so wouldn’t do that.”

Entertainment Weekly: Hilary Duff’s new film According to Greta hits theaters on Dec. 11 and EW has an exclusive look at the trailer. She plays troubled 17-year-old Greta, who is forced by her mom (Melissa Leo) to spend the summer with her elderly grandparents (Ellen Burstyn and Michael Murphy) in a Jersey Shore town. But Greta has a summer romance — with a busboy (Evan Ross) — that cheers her up, even if her grandparents don’t approve. Maybe this bratty/mopey role (shot in 2007) would seem more shocking had we not recently witnessed Duff involved in a threesome on Gossip Girl. Still, I’m always up for seeing a star humbled in a seafood shack waitress outfit.

"Movies are strong ratings performers and crucial to our overall strategy. They regularly rank among the top telecasts in any given season," he says.

The network has had a consistent approach to its own original movie franchises, which it continues to build on each year.

While ABC Family is committed to occasional miniseries, Zappala says a focus on both movies and series is a clearer strategy for the net. "As we see the broadcast networks, like NBC, shy away from scripted series, it's a plus for us if we can offer some originals," he says, adding that movies are a "strong promotional platform to launch series."

Zappala says franchise movies and recognisable stars are the biggest selling points of the channel's movie offering. "We also look for movies with talent that have specific appeal to our audience and we look for great stories and great production values," he says.

New films coming to the network in January include another instalment in the Bring It On franchise, starring Christina Milian; a further chapter in the Cutting Edge (above) ice skating drama franchise, which will immediately follow the Winter Olympics; and a Hilary Duff movie called The Business of Falling in Love, scheduled for April.

When New Moon hits theaters on Friday, you can bet that plenty of stars will be in line for the flick along with other members of the public. Since Twilight mania began taking hold last year, everyone from Zac Efron to Kelly Clarkson to Joe Jonas have raved about the franchise. Even President Obama admitted that he and daughter Malia have read the popular series.

Hilary Duff said in a radio interview that her hockey player beau Mike Comrie may have some vampire competition. "I was like, 'Edward Cullen … I mean, find me a vampire, you might be done,' " she said, adding, "He's handsome!"

The 23-year-old appeared as herself in an episode filmed in New York on Tuesday for the series' third season.

Hilary Duff on 'Gossip Girl': Review

Los Angeles Times: Could "Gossip Girl" be turning into the "Entourage" of the East? It's only a matter of time before more and more celebrities sign up to appear on the show, especially after Hilary Duff and Tyra Banks kicked last night's episode off so well. I'd like to see Matt Damon or Mark Wahlberg try to look as fabulous.

Duff entered the fray as Olivia Burke, a young movie star of "Twilight"-like proportions who is desperate for a normal college experience. She gets a small taste of normalcy when she meets clueless Dan, who is the last person on earth to recognize her, and Vanessa, her new roommate. Olivia becomes Dan's new love interest and somewhat establishes his type: blonds with a trail of paparazzi behind them. This romance, of course, won't last too long, what with a vengeful Georgina waiting in the wings and Duff's real movie career beckoning, but I thought Olivia and Dan make a cute couple, no?

I admit, I had very little expectations when I first heard of Duff's casting. I wasn't too familiar with her body of work outside of her roles in "Cheaper By the Dozen" and "The Cinderella Story" (come on, like you've never "accidentally" landed on the ABC Family channel), but I thought it safe to assume that playing a cute, blond, undercover actress would be a cakewalk for her. And it was! Like Dan, I felt gullible yet charmed. The Duff was sweet, adorable and "refreshingly normal" -- she had me at "I love Godard!"
